Ryan Simpson - Theatre Director

Ryan Simpson is starting his 6th year teaching, as he previously spent 3 years in Klein ISD before moving to Pearland. Ryan has a BFA in Theatre Education from the University of Houston. During his time at UH he helped with College Recruitment, Administrated an After-School Program, and taught workshops at Thespian Festival and TxETA. Ryan has also worked as a teaching artist with the Alley Theatre’s Playmaker’s camp, and with TUTS and the Tommy Tune Awards as a school ambassador. Ryan’s foremost goal for this upcoming school year is to equip his students with the tools needed to excel onstage. He is looking forward to seeing his students succeed, and laying the foundation for PHS to be a force within the Educational theatre realm. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his cat, friends, and family to unwind.

Technical Director - Gretchen Meyer

With over 25 years in education, Mrs. Gretchen Meyer brings a passion for teaching, creativity, and hands-on learning to Pearland High School Theatre. In the 2025–2026 school year, she serves as Assistant Director and Technical Director, leading students in the design, construction, and execution of all technical elements for our productions.

Mrs. Meyer holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Lamar University. She joins Pearland Theatre after serving as director of the Pearland Junior High South theatre program. During her time at PJHS, the department established a chapter of the International Thespian Society, earned multiple OAP awards, and was recognized as an Exemplary Program by the Texas Educational Theatre Association. By the end of the 2026 school year, she will have taught or coached at every grade level, kindergarten through twelfth grade, providing a rare breadth of experience that informs her ability to connect with and challenge students of all backgrounds.

Her instructional approach is built on the belief that technical theatre is more than building sets or running lights—it’s a real-world laboratory where students master collaboration, creative problem solving, and critical thinking. She pushes students to meet high expectations while providing the guidance and tools they need to succeed, preparing them not only for the stage, but for life beyond it.
